Classics Used and Rare Bookstore
My wife and I own a used bookstore at 117 South Warren Street in Trenton NJ. If you love used bookstores come and visit us! We are open 11 to 6 Monday through Thursday, 11 to midnight on Fridays and 11 to 4 on Saturdays. Our Scrabble club meets every Friday. On Saturdays we host booksignings and community events. Check out those events on our FaceBook page at http://www.facebook.com/?sk=messages&tid=1368755939718#!/group.php?gid=129424620065. Previous bookstore projects included the Trenton Reads / One City One Book program and the 2008 Trenton Book Fair.
Books at Home Program
The Books at Home Program gets books into the homes of Trenton kids whose school system is struggling.
Studies show that when kids have more books in their home libraries, they do better in school. Classics Used and Rare Books, 117 South Warren Street, raises store credit and money to make books available for all Trenton kids.
Through a partnership with local groups, Classics distributed $4,129 worth of books (approximately 2,000 books) to Trenton students in 2009. Partners include Doc Long at Trenton Central High School Poetry Class, Hedgepeth Williams School, Robbins School, Children’s Futures, Garvey School, the Trenton Police Department, WUCUSU, Powerful Life, SBR Realty, Fatha Ramsee, OURSEP, and Columbus School.
Monetary donations can be made by checks or money order made out to our partners at Children’s Futures Inc, with “Classics Books at Home Program” in the subject line. You can mail this to Classics 117 South Warren, Trenton NJ 08608.
Credit card donations can be made through “Donate Now using Just Give” located at www.childrensfutures.org. The section marked “Enter a description below of how you would like your donation to be used” should read “Classics Books at Home Program.”
Children’s Futures is a 501c3 non-profit and these cash donations are tax deductable.
The Trenton Review
I am editor-in-chief of the Trenton Review, a journal of arts and letters centered on Trenton NJ. The first issue covers photography, poetry, fiction, graffiti, theatre and music–including submissions from Pulitzer Prize winning poet Yusef Komunyakaa and an essay by Dean Ween of the rock group Ween on the Trenton rock spot, City Gardens.
